Four Cross-Generation LTO Tape Migration Myths, Starting With LTO-10

Myth: LTO-10 drives read older LTO tapes

The LTO Program’s own LTO-10 specification states that LTO-10 drives support no backward read or write compatibility, which means an LTO-10 drive reads and writes LTO-10 media only. Moving an LTO-3 cartridge onto current media therefore takes two drive generations.
